City City Bang BangChennai is supposed to be a rocking city. Next to Mumbai and Bangalore ofcourse. It has got some quality people. But somehow, after spending a whole month and a half at Chennai, after desperately moving my office here from Pondicherry, leaving my family behind there to have some fun alone here, I somehoe found it difficult to break free from the Tamilian force field.
There has been a life that I have always dreamed about, but could never find all these years, and i dont think I ever would. Life with great radio, great TV shows, and all great stuff within India, in the big cities. I dont intend to settle down at New York or London to get quality entertainment, I want them all at Chennai, and I know they exist. But where do I find them? Its like Harry Potter looking for the Horcruxes. Not to destroy, but to wear them, and get possessed by the soul thats hidden in them.
All these years, I have not liked the FM stations in Chennai much. I thought it sucks. Playing tamil songs 24×7. And in my opinion, the emotional range of Tamil Songs are not bigger than a tea spone (sorry Hermione).
Tonight I happened to go to my favourite bar in Chennai. The Sea Men’s club. Right opposite to the Reserve bank of India, Chennai at Parrys Corner. Had 1 large of Romanov Vodka mixed with sprite, Another large and a small on the rocks, On the way to the place from Mambalam on train I was listening to the test broadcast of 104.8. Not bad English Music, which cosed at 10 PM. I tuned my Philips Go Gear again, and found Radio City 91.1 FM, playing English Song! And most importantly, the best of songs, and the ones I like. And Craig is hosting the show. Called City City Bang Bang
He is asking questions to people, making them send SMS, and calls people who send the maximum number of messages, so that the compnay makes more money from it. I sent 2 messages, for the question who is the band that played “We will Rock You” It one of my favourite songs, and I sent the message twice, but didnt get a call.
Even if I had recieved a call, I would have turned it down and told them that Im drunk today and am not in a fit state to go on air today.
Anyways, Im glad that there are some interesting programs on radio that I can look forward to in the evenings, and get a taste of Chennai, rather than having to confine myself to the Tamil Entertainment, and listen to those stupid female RJs all day.
