BSNL Broadband in Pondicherry

by Ravi on Jul.30, 2008, under Ubuntu

Unfortunately enough for me, I have never been able to connect to a better broadband from my home in Pondicherry than a BSNL connection. The operators who are available in my area are SIFY, Tata Indicom and BSNL, out of which BSNL is the best. The other two are even worse.

Sify goes down very often, and when you call their helpline, they just tell you that the problem will be fixed in 24 to 48 hours, and when your line goes down for 15 times a month, you will be left for a month without internet. TATA is horrible. I have written a lot about my experiences with them at the office and at home. So all that I am left with is BSNL.

The only good ISP in Pondihcerry is Airtel, and out of sheer bad luck, they dont operate in my area of residence, and at the office. The first office that I had taken in Pondicherry was in an area where Airtel served, and I was quite happy wiht the service, but now, I am stuck to BSNL.

What is so bad about bsnl? Well, there is absolutely no customer service to start with, though the lines do not go down for more than a few hours together at a streatch. I am supposed to have a 2 Mbps connection, but the speed never crosses that of a 256 kbps connection, and I dont understand why I have to pay for the limited line if I dont get the promised 2 Mbps, and why not go for an unlimited 256 Kbps. Well, thats the plan that I had in the beginning, and in that connection, no data is ever transfered, and if you download a torrent file or something with quite a number of data connections, meaning if your computer connects with more than say about 50 ips at a time, and still download data at around 8 kbps or something, you will never be able to access any other website though there will be a good amount of bandwidth that is open for your use.

Airtel was really good, and I miss the service, and for this if you ask me to relocate my home for the sake of gothic art, it would be quite difficult. Why dont Airtel expand here?

Fashion TV

by Ravi on Jul.28, 2008, under Ubuntu

Fashion TV is a channel that is on air since 1997, and it celebrated its 10th year in 2007. It is a channel, or should we say, the only channel that is dedicated entirely to fashion. There are no stupid commercial breaks or any long interviews with the stupid blonde headed models, but its only about the catwalk, displaying only fashion. Michael Adam is the guy behind the channel, and he has this channel not to make money, but to advertise his products and to reach everywhere in the world. The channel itself is an advertisemnt channel that everyone would love to wathc, and not really a channel that is made to earn another stream of money from the business that you already do, and play the tapes tha tyou already have.

The channel displays all sorts of products, and my favourite are lingerie and body stockings. Should I call myself a naughtie boy? Well, I am not very sure about the other clothes that the models wear, and I dont even know their names, and I have never bothered to learn. But I understand bodys, and when its on lingerie and body stockings, it is quite easy to find out if you like what you see.

Indonesian Cultures

by Ravi on Jul.28, 2008, under Ubuntu

Recently I find myself a bit too occupied studying Asian cultures. All these cultures are pretty ancient, and I am looking for blogs that can give me authentic information, rather than trusting Discovery Travel and Living and National Geographic. I had been searching for Indonesian Cultures in martial arts, food, festivals and other customs of Indonesia, which if I am right has a touch of the Indian cultures too. And thats perhaps why Indonesia has the first part of its name rhyming with India.

Sanskrit is one of Indonesia’s tribal name, and most words that are used in Sanskrit in India, is their tribal language today, while Sanskrit was a popular language in India in which several books and poems were composed in. Well, Sanskrit is almost extinct in India now, except amoung certain scholars who still learnsanskrit to get to read the traditional Hindu books in their original form. But the tribe that learned Sanskrit from the Indians, still use it as their language in their tribe, though naturally it would be modified a lot over the years with influences of several languages, but still, like I said, several words remain the same.

A new office

by Ravi on Jul.27, 2008, under Ubuntu

Im in the process of setting up a new office for a new kind of business that not many would have tried to start up and run independently. Well, Im gambling a bit, and am starting up a stand alone adfarm. I have rented a few servers from a Datacentre at Singapore, got a few publishers accounts from here and there, and got plenty of domain names to spare, and all I need is some 30 people, 10 in a shift, working for 6 days a week in the strategy that I have developed to make a substantial income for the office to support itself, and give me a good share of the money.

I have the office ready, and am currently in the process of buying office furniture, and computers as well. I should then look for some good decorators to give the place a good look. Since the office would be open 24 hours a day, a lot of things should be done to keep the environment just the same in all 3 shifts.
